VIRGIN TECHNOLOGIES INC. TO ACQUIRE CETEC COMMUNICATIONS
INC.
Deal to Give Customers Access to Secure, Reliable
Telecommunications Solutions
EDMONTON, AB AND CALGARY, AB - FEBRUARY 14, 2008:
Edmonton-based satellite telecommunications company, Virgin
Technologies Inc, today announced that it will acquire
Calgary-based Cetec Communications Inc., in a move that will
substantially increase revenues and establish it as a major
player in Canada's satellite telecommunications market.
Virgin Technologies specializes in innovative satellite
telecommunications solutions, typically used in VoIP
telephone and fax services, secure VPN over satellite,
remote site monitoring and data reporting, and secure
mission critical communications. Cetec Communications
has two main product and service lines: satellite
telecommunication solutions, including both fixed and mobile
satellite solutions for well-site completions, and data
management, including secure monitoring and transmission of
well-site completion data.
Virgin Technologies' President & CEO, Robert Smibert, said
the acquisition would mean several significant changes for
Virgin Technologies, in terms of market access and
integration for the Company's various products and services.
"This not only substantially increases our revenue, but it
also effectively diversifies our offering with complementary
technologies and access to diverse market segments for all
our products and services," Smibert said.
Cetec Communications will retain its office in Calgary, with
limited changes to company structure to accommodate the
acquisition. The acquisition means that Virgin
Technologies will not employ Cetec's staff, and can focus on
leveraging some of Cetec's high-profile projects, according
to Cetec's General Manager, John Cameron.
"Becoming part of Virgin Technologies gives us the capacity
to expand further while also improving service to our
existing customers," Cameron said.
"We're very excited about this acquisition. Virgin
Technologies has added extra revenue, but also fantastic
talent in Cetec's existing staff, a service-oriented company
to add value to our existing offering, a major player across
several diverse, but complementary, market segments and a
secondary base from which to launch further R&D," Smibert
said.
